Workforce Services team members in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, stepped in to help when a student decided to make a major change in her life.
The student, Kaitlyn, had dropped out of high school for many reasons, nearly eight years ago. One of those reasons was to care for her young daughter.
Earlier this year, she decided she wanted a better life for the two of them, so she enrolled in the GED program with ResCare Workforce Services. Kaitlyn excelled in math and science but struggled in other areas. Thanks to her determination and the dedication of Workforce staff, she passed all the required exams to earn her GED in May 2019.
“Kaitlyn was the ideal student,” GED Instructor Lynnette Ashley said. “Her attendance, attitude and tenaciousness were things that could be passed on to the other students.”
Kaitlyn now has a paycheck coming in to support her and her daughter. She plans to attend college and study in the criminal justice field.
“This program has helped me become successful,” Kaitlyn said. “The staff and my teacher never gave up on me and encouraged me to do better. They always gave me support throughout all my schooling. I am finally getting to make my dreams come true because of this program.”
