Shiloh Deede – Washington Direct Support Professional of the Year
Shiloh’s 20-year career with ResCare is filled with stories of her success.
What stands out most is her often life-changing advocacy for the clients she supports. One example is a legally blind client with a passion for art. Shiloh networked in the community to get local artists and organizations involved. The result was showings of the client’s work.
One of Shiloh’s current clients expressed a passion for community building, so Shiloh reached out to a local church to establish a relationship. She worked with the client and the church to develop a community outreach program. The client now participates in the program independently.
Shiloh has worked with her agency’s management team to develop training opportunities and provide detailed support strategies for working with clients facing new situations. For example, currently she’s working with her team on a dementia support group for staff and managers working with clients with dementia.
Shiloh embodies the philosophy of person-centered services. She has worked in this field her entire adult life and loves her special role as a direct support professional (DSP). In her words: “I can better serve my clients when I work directly with them all day every day.”
