FORT WORTH, TX (September 15, 2014) — When ResCare Direct Support Professional (DSP) Vickie Brooks received ANCOR’s 2014 DSP of the Year award for the state of Texas, she was unable to attend the award ceremony in Miami.
Executive Director Melonee Williams and Director of Operations/General Manager Lori West wanted to ensure that Ms. Brooks didn’t miss out on the special recognition she deserved, so they arranged to present her with a proclamation recognizing her award from Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Ms. Brooks serves as the vocation director for Alternative Business Services (ABS) at ResCare Residential Services in Fort Worth. Supporting individuals through ResCare for nearly 30 years, Ms. Brooks exemplifies creativity, skill and knowledge in teaching vocational skills. Ms. Brooks works in a vocational and day habilitation setting where she helps individuals with disabilities find meaningful work. Due to her guidance and dedication to creating and developing training programs, individuals have learned computer skills, job interview techniques and expectations in work settings.
Ms. Williams describes Ms. Brooks as a strong leader who understands she can’t do this work all on her own.
“She encourages and motivates other DSPs to adopt her vision, which allows the program to grow and spread,” Ms. Williams stated. “She welcomes new ideas and input from the individuals she serves as well as other DSPs and finds ways to develop their ideas and make them successful.”
The office in Fort Worth is grateful to have Ms. Brooks on their team. She is considered a vital resource in providing insight on individuals ResCare has served over a long period of time.
“Vickie has built relationships of trust with the people she works with,” Ms. Williams said. “She exemplifies ResCare’s mission.”
