ResCare makes strides to ‘Hire Our Heroes’

Hiring Our Heroes career fair

Executive Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Alfonso Martinez-Fonts Jr. gave opening remarks during a recent Hiring Our Heroes career fair ResCare participated in.

CHESTERLAND, OH (August 14, 2014) – Becoming a Hero Health Hire partner in 2012, ResCare is committed to helping veterans find jobs in the health care sector. Operations nationwide are actively involved with organizations that focus on pairing veterans with employers, like Hiring our Heroes.

ResCare Residential Services in Chesterland recently joined over 150 employers for a Hiring Our Heroes career fair tailored especially for veterans and their spouses. Hiring our Heroes, founded by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, travels nationwide to help veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses find meaningful employment opportunities.

Executive Director Kevin Cook and Program Manager Mary Cirelli represented ResCare at the event and interacted with jobseekers about career opportunities at ResCare. Since the fair, they have already completed the interview process with several individuals they met.

“Veterans are committed, loyal and possess the characteristics and qualities we look for in our workforce,” Mr. Cook explained. “Every veteran or spouse of a veteran we spoke with was well-informed and we had great conversations.”

Mr. Cook has participated in more than a dozen career fairs but Hiring Our Heroes stuck out to him the most. He hopes to make participation an annual event.

The ResCare Resource Center also enjoyed a great experience during a Hiring our Heroes event in March. They shared available jobs in finance, information technology, management, payroll, pharmaceuticals and direct support services to meet a wide range of skill sets.

“I feel this is a terrific event,” Human Resource Manager Terrence Carter said. “What a great way to give those who have served in the military a chance to transfer their skills into the private sector.”
