AUGUSTA, GA (June 25, 2014) – We shared DSP Virginia Lee’s story with you in January and now others are also noticing Ms. Lee’s achievements.
Ms. Lee, who served in the United States Army, is all too familiar with the challenges that veterans face after leaving the battle field and returning home. After serving in the army, she soon found herself sleeping in her car when she couldn’t find a place to stay. To make matters worse, Ms. Lee was diagnosed with breast cancer, making the idea of not knowing where she was going to lay her head at night even more of a struggle.
Thanks to several non-profit organizations, the number of veterans without homes is dropping dramatically and receiving attention nationwide. Ms. Lee discovered one such non-profit organization, the Augusta Warrior Project, and soon obtained work through ResCare Workforce Services and ResCare HomeCare.
Ms. Lee’s accomplishments were recognized by ANCOR recently when she was selected as Georgia’s DSP of the Year and then showcased on local news station NBC 26. To view her story, click here.
