LOUISVILLE, KY (Nov. 7, 2013) –ResCare has been featured in a new book from the CEO of CareerBuilder and professors from top U.S. business schools. The Talent Equation tells the story of how, at every stage of the employee lifecycle, big data is helping companies make smarter decisions about their workforce and develop successful talent strategies in the face of skills gaps and retention challenges.
According to The Talent Equation, while there are over 11 million unemployed people in the United States, 45 percent of employers state that they can’t find qualified candidates to fill job openings. In the book, ResCare management discusses how they are helping to fill that gap and some of their internal strategies to recruit and retain valuable employees themselves.
ResCare Chief Human Resources Officer Rick Purdy and Vice President of Talent Management Tom Heetderks are featured in a chapter about talent retention that highlights ResCare’s efforts to create a strong employment brand and promote a positive culture for both potential recruits and existing employees. In another chapter of the book that looks at skills development, Senior Vice President of ResCare Workforce Services Diane Rath is featured with a spotlight on the value of ResCare’s workforce centers in bridging the skills gap between employers and potential recruits.
“We want our employment brand to be a powerful foundation not only for talent acquisition but also for many of the subsequent people initiatives that our new hires will experience,” Mr. Heetderks said in the book. “As a key party of a larger, smart retention strategy, a winning employment brand is underappreciated as a powerful way to connect with and thus retain valued employees.”
Ms. Rath discussed services ResCare Workforce Services provides to external employers and job seekers in their hundreds of career centers in more than 20 states and the District of Columbia. She discusses how ResCare can help fill the skills gap between employers and jobseekers in an economy where many small businesses do not have human resources staff and many job seekers have never had to look for a job.
“It’s the best kept secret because we deliver the services, which are funded under the public workforce system via employer taxes,” Ms. Rath said in the book. “We tell small businesses: you’ve prepaid for this service, so allow us to help you get the value for the investment you have already made.”
ResCare was excited to work with CareerBuilder on The Talent Equation.
“It was an honor to collaborate with CareerBuilder to share ResCare’s cutting edge employment services and our approach to recruitment and retention in The Talent Equation,” Mr. Purdy said. “This book provides solid evidence for strategies that will help companies find, train and retain the right people in spite of potential skills shortages, resource limitations and other recruiting challenges.”
The Talent Equation is available on Amazon and in bookstores. The ebook can be downloaded from the Kindle, iTunes and Barns &Noble stores.
