Home Care Industry Provides Jobs in a Tough Economy
By Lucie Juneau Patrowicz
(Everett, WA) An article in the Everett, Washington Herald reports that the city’s ResCare HomeCare branch is among a select group of employers in Snohomish County who are still hiring.
Herald reporter Yoshiaki Nohara writes that although the county has lost many jobs – including 800 in the retail sector in the month of October alone – a handful of industries are doing well. Job opportunities can still be found in the biomedical industry, and an aging population continues to drive demand for healthcare and home care services.
New hires on the ResCare HomeCare service team include individuals who have been laid off from positions in other industries. Peggy Watson, supervisor at the ResCare HomeCare branch in Everett, attributes the resilience of the home care market to the steady demand for services. “There are always people who need help,” she said. The services provided by the Everett ResCare HomeCare branch are supported by public funding, so the organization is not immediately impacted by dwindling consumer resources, though Washington home care providers like ResCare HomeCare – and the seniors they serve – could potentially be affected if the state trims its budget in coming years.
ResCare HomeCare provides home care services from 160+ locations in 28 states. Its caregivers are screened and supervised, and provide a wide range of home care services on an hourly or live-in basis in the home, hospital, or residence. Many ResCare HomeCare branches offer skilled home health care and geriatric care management, and some are Medicare certified. ResCare HomeCare's parent company, ResCare, is the nation's largest and most diverse human services provider. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, ResCare is a publicly-traded company [NASDAQ: RSCR] with 45,000 employees serving more than 65,000 people daily. With international operations in eight countries and territories, ResCare continues to expand to provide services across the globe.
