Reaping the Benefits of Reaching Out

By Mary Anglin

(Fort Worth, TX) As ResCare HomeCare’s marketing manager in Fort Worth, Arlene Hunsworth-Fox may know better than some the benefits of reaching out to the community, forging relationships and building bonds. She never expected to be rewarded for it. Guardianship Services, Inc. (GSI), a nonprofit providing geriatric case management, named her and ResCare HomeCare as their Corporate Friend of the Year.

“It is quite prestigious for GSI to use our services,” Ms. Hunsworth-Fox said. “Everybody wants to get in with them and they are constantly striving to stay in their good books. It’s almost like a seal of approval for ResCare.”

Her volunteer efforts earned the special recognition at GSI’s Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Ms. Hunsworth-Fox busted through all the stops assisting with the dinner for the last two years.

“Arlene was instrumental in using her contacts for refreshments and décor,” Sheryl Farrell, GSI volunteer and public relations coordinator, said. “She even reached out to other company representatives, who provide services for the people we support, to pull everyone together for the event.”

Ms. Farrell said GSI puts on the dinner every year to honor individuals and companies who offered extraordinary volunteer support for the nonprofit and the seniors they serve throughout the year.

GSI serves adults who lack the ability to manage personal or financial affairs. Their mission is to provide guardianship and alternative services to legally and functionally incapacitated individuals who have no family member or friend willing, able or suitable to serve in that capacity.

“I am very proud of Ms. Hunsworth-Fox and the ResCare HomeCare – Fort Worth branch. This is a wonderful recognition of their community service,” Ralph G. Gronefeld, ResCare president and chief executive officer, said.

Ms. Hunsworth-Fox’s efforts paid off. The award will be announced in 1,200 newsletter mailings to court officials who help determine the provider who will supply an individual’s care. This means ResCare HomeCare is about to receive some valuable free advertising.

“There’s a lot of competition in this area so it’s good to stay involved,” Ms. Hunsworth-Fox said.
